Commitment to Public Service

As a dedicated social worker and industrial/organizational psychologist, with a lengthy career in local government, I seek to serve all who live and work in Fairfax City, making decisions that serve the public good.

I’ve spent my career as a social worker promoting the well-being of my community. I’ve recently added a degree in industrial/organizational psychology to better equip me to serve as a leader in the workplace. Serving as a councilmember is a natural extension of that. I understand how local government works, and I understand the need to make sound decisions, considering all available information, that serve the long-term best interests of the community.

I prioritize hearing from diverse voices, especially those that are marginalized or unheard, to understand various perspectives and foster community engagement.

I understand the power of listening, especially to those that have felt marginalized. I also know that although many do not speak up or speak out; they have equally valid perspectives. I will seek to hear from those who have been on the sidelines along with those who have been active and involved. This is true regardless of my starting point - I want to hear a variety of perspectives to inform my decisions.

I am committed to making decisions that support the long-term health and prosperity of Fairfax City, working with our partners to ensure we address future challenges effectively.

We must consider our future prospects, challenges, and partnerships in all our decision-making. While council terms are short, I promise to make decisions that will serve Fairfax City for generations to come.. I appreciate the hard decisions we have to make regarding our revenues and expenses, ensuring that our decisions today are affordable tomorrow. As a government leader, I have collaborated with others to make key decisions that are informed by facts, data, and the perspectives of those most impacted.

I advocate for development that respects our history and environment, maintains fiscal responsibility, and strengthens our personality as a desirable home for current and future residents.

FairfaxCity has a wonderful history that has brought us to where we are today. We have a strong commitment to the environment that makes us a beautiful and healthy place to live. I support development that respects the values of those who love Fairfax City now and that welcomes new neighbors to share in the charm that we love.

My approach emphasizes cultivating trust among residents, business owners, city staff, and city leaders through transparent and rational decision-making.

It is key to our success as a city that there is a foundation of trust among us. I will work hard to build on the trust we already have and strengthen our relationships to ensure that as we work together, we have a smooth flow and common purpose. I promise to be open-minded and transparent about decision-making. I will do what I say and keep my commitments. Wherever we fall on the continuum of agreement, I will respect differing perspectives and seek common ground.
