May 3rd: Campaign Kickoff

Absolutely amazing time at my Campaign Kickoff event at Mackenzie's today! My heart is so full! Such a wonderful gathering of special people. Thank you so much to Mayor Catherine Read and my good friend Oriane Eriksen for standing up to speak for me. Thank you to Delegate Gretchen Bulova for stopping by. Thank you to Josh Alexander for always providing a great space for people to connect with each other. And thank you to everyone who came out to support me - it means the world to me. Now onto the campaign trail!!

Today was a great day for meeting voters! I knocked on a lot of doors in the Layton Hall neighborhood. I love the friendly people of this city!

July 24th: Canvassing in Daniels Run Woods Neighborhood

Where in the city is Sandi?
Yesterday I was walking around the Daniels Run Woods neighborhood saying hi to voters. Everyone was so friendly! And I was so excited to add another yard sign out there!
What neighborhood should I visit next?

July 21st: Commission for Women meeting

Where in the City is Sandi?
Last night I went to the Commission for Women meeting. What a dedicated group of women for our City! 
Keep an eye out for their next Coffee and Connections on Sep 12! And help them support Go Beyond the Blues https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/beyond-the-blues/ to raise awareness about women's maternal health.

Did you hear about the amazing Fairfax high school graduate, Emily Dillard, who produced and co-wrote an amazing film?! A Mosquito in the Ear. It was a wonderful screening last night at Cinema Arts. Were you there? It was quite a full house

July 20th: Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce Fundraiser

I had a great time at the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce fundraiser tonight! Met some wonderful business owners and enjoyed seeing CFCC exec director Jennifer Rose, mayor Catherine S. Read , council member Anthony Amos , and fellow candidates Kelly O'Brien and María José Padmore .
What do you think we could do more of to attract and support small businesses in our city?

July 18th: Canvassing in Daniels Run Woods Neighborhood

I was out and about meeting voters this morning in the Daniels Run Woods neighborhood, and came across this lovely sight! 😃

July 12: Fairfax City Businesses

Spent some time walking the dogs around old town today with Joshua Alexander and Katie.  Stopped in at De Clieu and Common Culture - a couple of great little coffee shops! Enjoyed some good conversations with residents and business owners.

July 12: Glass Recycling and Compost

Ran a couple of errands earlier today to drop glass at the crushing bin and compost at the community garden. I love that the city provides these opportunities. I know they're not super convenient for everyone though. What are your thoughts on how we can expand on this?

July 7th: City Council Meeting

Where in the city is Sandi?

Full house for the city council work session tonight to hear about the proposed Gallery at City Center. Did you watch? Lots of good info and good questions about this very impactful development proposal!

Then the council got a demo of new translation/interpretation software that can be used for city meetings. Great way to make meetings more accessible to people who speak different languages!

July 3rd: Fairfax Democrats Float Making Party

Had a great time last night at the Dem Committee float decorating party without the float! Great people, great celebration! Thank you Kathy and Dave Hackshaw, for hosting!

July 6th: Housing and Healthy Communities Advisory Board Meeting

Where in the city is Sandi? 
Tonight I was at the Housing and Healthy Communities Advisory Board meeting. They are working so hard on important issues such as setting targets for development of various types of housing, how best to handle hypothermia and hyperthermia shelters, and how to provide information about home sharing. 
They're presenting to City Council on the 14th on the Housing Trust Fund. Come watch!

June 24th: Country Club Hills Civic Association annual meeting

I enjoyed our Country Club Hills Civic association annual meeting last night. It was held at our local Commons, a lovely little spot in our neighborhood. Great dialogue among engaged residents. Thanks to everyone who works all year long to make CCH a wonderful place to live!

June 23rd: City Council Meeting

Tonight I'm back at City Hall (my home away from home!) for the city council meeting. They are talking about updating the Small Area Plans to help guide development in our major activity centers - this will impact all of us!

June 19th: Fairfax City Citizens for Smarter Growth

Where in the City is Sandi?
I spent the morning talking with some members of the Fairfax City Citizens for Smarter Growth: https://fairfaxcitysmartergrowth.wordpress.com/ What a great group of people who care deeply about shaping this place we call home. We discussed the many development projects being proposed for the City, and how to consider what's best for our residents and businesses.
Oh, and we met at https://www.mainstreetbageldeli.com/ - I love this place 🙂

June 16th: Fairfax City Commission on the Arts meeting

This evening I went to the Fairfax City Commission on the Arts meeting to learn more about what they do. What an amazing group! We are doing so much more in this little city than I imagined! 
And I got to see the presentation of the proposed mural for Beacon Landing by artists Sarah Berry and Caesar McGann. Major WOW factor!

June 12th: Fairfax City Development Industry meeting

Spent the morning at the Fairfax City Development Industry meeting. Really great to see so many City staff and meet so many who are invested in developing our City. I loved learning about the many process improvements we're making to support development, and more about our Affordable Housing Plan and our Small Area Plan Amendments. June 21st: Planning Commission Meeting

Where in the City is Sandi? 
Last night I was at the Planning Commission meeting 😄 
First up was the latest on possible detached accessory dwelling units. They asked some good questions!
Then we heard about a new proposed development in Northfax - townhouses, small multi-family, and a bit of retail.
Last up was more discussion about the courthouse plaza proposal.
What questions would you ask on these issues?

June 18th: Fairfax City Democratic Committee Fundraiser

Great time last night at the fundraiser for the Fairfax City Dems committee at Mackenzie's Tunes & Tonics! The dogs always enjoy it too!

June 12th: Fairfax City Urban Forestry Team's Grazing Goats and Sheep

The goats are working hard at Blenheim! Well, right now, they're having a staring contest with my dogs....
How cool is this? What a creative, inexpensive, environmentally respectful way to deal with a problem. Kudos to whichever city staff person got this going!

June 8th: Planning Commission Meeting

I'm such a nerd, but I am enjoying my Monday evening watching the Planning Commission meeting this evening. Really interesting to hear the discussion with the developer about the Gallery at City Center proposal. And then the discussion about updating the small areas plans. Many of us care deeply about development in the city. Great to hear the latest.

June 2nd: City Council Meeting

Learning more about the proposal to redevelop Courthouse Plaza. This is such an important area for our city. I'm excited about the possibilities and appreciate all the care and attention being paid to the choices we have. So inspiring to hear redevelopment ideas from Katherine Johnson Middle School students about Northfax and Courthouse Plaza. I love that our city values hearing from young people. Cool ideas!

May 31st: All Are Welcome event

I had a great time this afternoon at the All Are Welcome event at Mackenzie's Tunes and Tonics celebrating and supporting our LGBTQ partners in Fairfax County. It was fun to chat with Gretchen and David Bulova and many others who gathered together today. Thanks to Laura Stokes for connecting me with this!

May 30th: Fairfax Farmers' Market
